Talent Education Research Project
Dr. Sax Chamber Orchestra

The Dr. Sax Chamber Orchestra constitutes of young Thai music students who are students of Talent Education Research Project founded in 1995. The project is conducted by Assoc. Prof.Dr.Sugree Charoensook: Dean of the College of Music, Mahidol University, Thailand. Later, in March 1997, the Dr.Sax Chamber Orchestra was formed under this project.
The resident conductor, Lt. Prateep Suphanrojn BA LRSM, works as arranger for the orchestra. The Dr. Sax Chamber Orchestra is trained properly, along with discipline and respectfulness. The training is given by Thai teachers who master in strings and by those who are masters from European countries. The orchestra has performed with professional Thai artists and with those who come from oversea. They are now being exposed to varieties of precious musical experiences.
Since the orchestra was established, they have performed over a hundred concerts. Furthermore, they have ever been abroad to take part in music seminars, provide and participate in workshops, and perform concerts in many countries i.e. Hungary (April 2000), Austria (May 2004), China (October 2005) and Canada
(March 2006). Until now, 7 CDs have been produced. Each presents different styles of music : traditional Thai pieces, Thai folk music and classical European standard repertoires. The purpose of the recordings is to express educational aspect.
The Dr. Sax Chamber Orchestra is appropriate for musicians who would like to prepare for professional careers, not only for working in Thailand, but also for further study in order to go on in international musical community.
Recently, on 29th September 2005, they were awarded “The First Prize” of the International Youth Chamber Music Competition ( IYCC 2005 ) held in Interlaken, Switzerland.
